The 2026 Application will be posted here in Spring of 2026.
The Ferris Olson Family Foundation for Ocean Stewardship (FOFFOS), a 501(c)(3) charitable giving foundation, awards grants for projects that promote conservation, ecosystem restoration and protection, and advocacy of and community stewardship for ocean and coastal areas as well as marine animal rescue and rehabilitation.
FOFFOS recognizes the contribution of educational projects in the work being done for ocean stewardship; however, FOFFOS grants are for the support of action-oriented projects not for educational activities. Grants may be given for established and pilot projects. A pilot project explores the feasibility of undertaking larger scale projects.
Grant awards cover a period of one year. Extensions for an additional year will be treated as a new grant. A new application must be completed and submitted during the open application period for review with other grants for that period.
Grants are made only to entities recognized as a 501(c)(3) by the IRS. Stewardship work may be done beyond the boundaries of the US with the permission and permitting of the overseeing authority in which the work is to occur.
FOFFOS awards may not be used for lobbying or solely for travel. Funds may not be used for administrative, fundraising or general-purpose programs. Institutional assessments of indirect costs, if applicable, may not exceed 15%.
In the event that the project does not commence or is prematurely terminated funds must be returned, in a timely manner, to FOFFOS
Brief updates of the work in progress are encouraged. A more detailed final report must be submitted within three months of the end of the funding period; thus, the final report for the 2027 funding period of January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2027, is due on or before March 31, 2028. The report should include a description of the project’s outcomes, success in achieving desired goal(s), next step(s), a list of all publications submitted or in press resulting from the work, and a description of how FOFFOS funds were used.
FAQ: “What is a reasonable amount for a grant request?” Requests have ranged from less than $10,000 to $50,000. Grant allocations in a given year are determined by FOFFOS financials and the number and merit of applications received.
Questions and completed applications should be sent to FerrisOlsonFoundation@gmail.com or FOFFOS, PO Box 3381, Englewood, CO 80155.
The deadline for submitting the 2026 application for funding in 2027 is October X, 2026.
We look forward to reviewing your application.
